Carly Rae Jepsen Goes From Day to Night With Ambitious New Double Album
A 24-Song Double Album Explores Two Distinct Sides of Carly Rae Jepsen
Canadian pop star Carly Rae Jepsen is thinking big for her next chapter.
The Mission, British Columbia-born singer-songwriter will release Day and Night on September 18, 2026, through School Boy/Interscope Records. Rather than choosing between different sides of her musical personality, Jepsen has built a double album around both.
The project contains 24 new songs, divided evenly between 12 daytime tracks and 12 nighttime tracks.
For an artist known for writing far more songs than eventually appear on her albums, the format feels particularly appropriate. This time, however, listeners will not have to wait for a companion collection to hear another side of the story.
Two Sides of Carly Rae Jepsen
The concept behind Day and Night goes beyond simply dividing 24 songs across two records.
The Day portion moves towards live instrumentation and an organic sound, with influences drawn from 1970s psychedelic pop. Night, meanwhile, heads towards synthesizers and sleek dance-pop.
Together, the two sides are intended to explore contrasting emotions and moods. Love and joy sit alongside anxiety and fear, while escapism also plays a role in the album’s emotional landscape.
Jepsen developed the project with several familiar collaborators, including Tavish Crowe, Kyle Shearer, Nate Cyphert and Cole M.G.N.
“On Wires” Opens the New Era
Listeners received their first official introduction to Day and Night with “On Wires,” released on June 26, 2026.
The pop-rock leaning single offers an early indication that Jepsen is willing to stretch beyond one narrowly defined sound on the new record. Its accompanying video also became unexpectedly personal, with its concept changing during production to reflect Jepsen’s circumstances at the time.
She followed “On Wires” with “After All” in July. The second song arrived with a video directed by Aerin Moreno and provided another glimpse into the forthcoming collection.
With 24 tracks on the finished album, however, those early releases reveal only a small portion of what is coming.
A Different Approach to the Companion Album
Longtime Carly Rae Jepsen listeners will recognise something familiar in the idea of contrasting musical collections.
Her acclaimed E•MO•TION was followed by E•MO•TION Side B. Dedicated later received its own Side B, while 2022’s The Loneliest Time was followed by The Loveliest Time in 2023.
Those companion projects became more than collections of leftovers. They helped establish Jepsen as a prolific songwriter whose alternate tracks could sometimes become fan favourites in their own right.
For Day and Night, she is changing the formula.
Instead of releasing one album and saving another collection for later, both sides of the project arrive together. Jepsen has explained that her previous B-side projects sometimes contained material she personally favoured, helping inspire the decision to present the broader musical spectrum at once.
A Major New Canadian Pop Release
Jepsen’s career has travelled a remarkable distance since “Call Me Maybe” became an international phenomenon in 2012.
Three years later, E•MO•TION helped reshape perceptions of her music. Its polished pop songwriting developed a devoted following and the album has since surpassed one billion streams.
More than a decade later, she continues to experiment within pop rather than simply recreating her biggest commercial hit.
Day and Night appears poised to take that approach even further.
Day and Night Arrives September 18
The album will be available digitally as well as in physical formats, including 2LP vinyl and CD editions. Carly Rae Jepsen’s official site is currently offering several versions of the release for pre-order.
The complete 24-song track listing has not yet been published through Interscope’s official album store, although “On Wires” and “After All” have already been released.
With one half looking towards warm, organic psychedelic pop and the other embracing the possibilities of the dance floor, Carly Rae Jepsen is giving listeners two sides of herself on the same record.
Day and Night arrives September 18, 2026.
